tiago cutileiro2013Was born in Lisbon (Portugal) in 1967. He studied Classic Guitar (prof. Luís Robert) and Piano (prof. Raquel Correia) at Escola de Música do Grupo Coral de Lagos (Portugal), Piano (prof. Carla Seixas) and Composition (prof. António Sousa Dias and prof. Jorge Peixinho) at the Lisbon Conservatory and graduated in Composition (prof. Amílcar Vasques Dias) at the Évora University (Portugal) where he won two Merit Scholarships. He attended several Masterclasses with composers such as Emmanuel Nunes, Salvatore Sciarrino, John Chowning, Leo Brouwer, Agostino De Scipio and Barry Truax. More recently, he also attended, at Universität der Künste in Berlin, the classes of Alberto de Campo and Fredrik Olofsson in Computer Music and Audio-Visual Programming.
In 1994 was awarded with the prize: Young Creators of the Mediterranean Europe. In 1996 was awarded with the Portuguese Young Creator’s Prize.
Between 2001 and 2009, taught Analysis and Composition, Acoustics and Chamber Music in the Music Academy of Lagos (Portugal), where he was also Pedagogical Director and Artistic Director. He was also an assistant teacher in the Évora University, and collaborated regularly, with essays and program notes, for the Portuguese National Opera Theatre of São Carlos and for Culturgest in Lisbon.
His work includes instrumental music (chamber and orchestral; with or without electronics), electronic music, sound installations, theatre music and music for films and has been played in some of the most important Contemporary Music Festivals in Portugal.
Presently, Tiago Cutileiro is living in Berlin and, tutored by Christopher Bochmann and Benoit Gibson, is working on a PhD in Opera and Non-Narrative Music for the Évora University in Portugal.
