In March 2014 Arte no Tempo is set to release a semiannual bilingual electronic publication (in Portuguese and English), which will be available for free on this website.
The project has the name of “Musicografias” and is designed to promote the work currently being produced by musicians of recognised merit: the first publication will be dedicated to the theme of “Vienna XX/XXI”, focusing on two distinct moments in more recent musical history. Contributors include Madalena Soveral, Ana Cancela, Marie Luise Maintz, Sergio Bové and Christian Scheib, and this issue will discuss the work of the composers Alban Berg, Arnold Schönberg, Peter Ablinger and Beat Furrer.
The release event of the first publication features the Ambassador of Austria to Portugal Dr Thomas Stelzer and the composer Beat Furrer – one of the most important composers in the Viennese musical scene over the last few decades, not only as a teacher and the founder of the highly regarded chamber orchestra Klangforum Wien, but also as the creator of an innovative language and a unique musical universe. He will debate the current state of music with the project’s coordinators, Pedro Berardinelli and Diana Ferreira, in a discussion that will be punctuated by music (with compositions ranging from Berg to Furrer) performed by two musicians who are completely committed to the contemporary music world: the flutist Stephanie Wagner and the pianist Madalena Soveral.
This is a moment of reflexion about the music of our time. We invite you to take part.
