ars ad hoc made its debut concert in September 2018. The first performances of Arte no Tempo‘s ensemble took place at Igreja do Convento de Jesus (Museu de Aveiro / Santa Joana), featuring Beat Furrer‘s music as well as works by Schubert and Brahms. The opening concert of the following season also took place there, this time focusing on Beethoven and Luís Antunes Pena‘s compositions.
Since then, ars ad hoc has performed at Reencontros de Música Contemporânea 2019 (a portrait concert of Beat Furrer, featuring the Portuguese premiere of the composer’s clarinet quintet intorno al bianco), at Festival de Música dos Açores (with works by Beat Furrer and others, including another Portuguese premiere and in collaboration with the Austrian vocal ensemble Cantando Admont) and also at The House of Beautiful Business in Lisbon.
This season the ensemble will have a series of residencies outside Aveiro, the first one starting later this month at the cozy Teatro da Vista Alegre.
It is at this inspiring venue that ars ad hoc will rehearse the quintets Talea [1985-86], by Gérard Grisey (1946-1998), and Konvolut [2014], by Luís Antunes Pena (1973). These works will be performed alongside Beethoven‘s Trio Op.1 No.1 and also a movement of his Sonata for cello and piano op.5, firstly, on the 1st February in the evening, at Convento São Francisco (Coimbra), and again on the day after at Teatro da Vista Alegre.
The latter is the place where ars ad hoc will prepare for the commented sessions of the project crescer com a música [growing up with the music]. There will be two sessions, one on the 30th January in the morning (Teatro da Vista Alegre) and another on the 31st January at Teatro Aveirense during the afternoon.
