Tiago Patrocínio Coimbra (1990) is since 2022 oboe professor at the School of Applied Arts (ESART) (Castelo Branco/Portugal), principal oboe at the Göttinger Symphony Orchestra (Göttingen/Germany) and Orquestra Filarmonia das Beiras (Aveiro/Portugal).
In the season 2022/23, he will perform the world premiere of Resilience, Concerto for Oboe and Orchestra, by the Luxembourg composer Félix Turrión Eichler, with the Orquesta Filarmónica de Málaga.
Tiago recorded the recently discovered ‘Sinfonia Concertante’ for flute, oboe and orchestra by WA Mozart to the Universal Music Group, as well as a CD dedicated to Samuel Bastos (1987-2019) with works for oboe by various Portuguese composers.
He was artist-in-residence at the ‘Musinfo Festival Art & Science Days 2021 Saint-Etienne’, where he premiered some works for oboe and electronics using the Sampo.
Tiago has performed in the main European cities as member of the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and as guest principal oboe with the NDR Radiophilharmonie Hannover, MDR Sinfonieorchester Leipzig, Staatsoper Hannover, Staatsorchester Braunschweig, Staatsorchester Kassel, Remix Ensemble, Orquestra Metropolitana and Orquestra XXI. He has also played with the Luzerner Sinfonieorchester, Opernhaus Zürich, Orquestra Gulbenkian and Orquestra Nacional do Porto.
He was awarded prizes in international competitions and played as soloist with Basel Kammerorchester, Argovia Philharmonic, Göttinger Symphonie Orchester, Philharmonic of Yakutia and Filarmonia das Beiras. Chamber music takes a very important role in his career. He is a founding member of Art’Ventus Quintet, and plays often with the ensemble Camerata Nov’Arte, harpist Carolina Coimbra, CODA Quintet, Trio Fermata and with soloists of the Göttinger Symphony Orchestra.
He worked with some of the most important composers of his time, such as Hans Ulrich Lehmann, Helmut Lachenmann and Heinz Holliger, among others, and performed the premiere of some of their pieces for the oboe. Tiago is also a composer and his own pieces are available AVA Musical Editions
In 2016, Tiago finished, with distinction, the Soloist Diplome studies at the Hochschule für Musik Basel with Emanuel Abbühl after he has completed with the highest mark a Master’s degree at the Zürcher Hochschule der Künste with Thomas Indermühle. Furthermore, he studied with Maurice Bourgue at the Academie Musicale de Villecroze. He started his oboe lessons with Saul Silva and Ana Madalena Silva in Portugal at the Music Conservatoire in Vila Nova de Gaia.
He holds a PhD in Music by the Universidade de Aveiro.
Tiago Coimbra was a scholarship holder of the prestigious Swiss foundations LYRA Stiftung, Fritz-Gerber Stiftung and Bruno-Schuler Stiftung, among others.
